In the 1920s, Luther Gage settled in Oceanside and began growing Ranunculus seeds next to his friend’s vegetable farm. The friend, Frank Frazee, began growing freesia when his vegetable farm was destroyed by fire. He later added Ranunculus to expand his offerings. These 50 colorful acres are now called The Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch and attract a number of tourists. I call it “Rainbows of Ranunculus.”
