Salisbury

Inspired by Edward Rutherford’s book “Sarum”, I wanted to visit Salisbury and see both the city and its magnificent cathedral.  It did not disappoint!

I stayed at the historic Rose and Crown Hotel, a 13th century coaching inn located along the River Avon just a short distance from the city center.

Sheep and the spire of Salisbury Cathedral.

Staddle stones (not a misspelling) were once used to keep barns above ground level so the wood wouldn’t rot. Now, they’re more often used as decorative elements. Here, you’ll see the stones on their own, supporting an old barn, and a sheep using the barn as a cosy shelter.
