I’ve always admired Japanese gardens with their emphasis on enhanced natural beauty. Every time you turn a corner, there’s another lovely view in front of you. Shukkeien Garden is a lovely oasis of greenery. From inside, it’s hard to tell that the busy city of Hiroshima is all around you.
Although we were visiting in July and missed the spring bloom period, the greenery here is gorgeous. I wanted to sit on one of the artfully placed benches and just contemplate the garden’s serene beauty.
Just a few tall buildings peeking over the trees remind you that you’re in a city with a population of over a million people.

I just wanted to stay here all day.

Shukkeien Garden (also with alternative spellings of Shokkeien or Sukkeien) is open 9am-6pm in the summer and 9-5 in the winter. Adult admission is 350 yen. Their address is Kaminoboro-cho, Naka-Ku, Hiroshima City
