We were traveling in rural northern Romania, admiring the neat rolled stacks of hay in the fields, when we passed several horse-drawn wagons. Almost every horse we saw in rural northern Romania sported these flying red tassels. We were told that the tassels ward off the evil eye.
These horse-drawn wagons were pretty common in Romania. It made us feel like we’d stepped back 200 years in time.
