The USS Midway in San Diego

The USS Midway, named after the famous WWII battle, was actually commissioned 10 days after the end of WWII. She made a name for herself during the Vietnam War. Remember those photos of helicopters lowering Saigon refugees onto the deck of an aircraft carrier? This is her. She was decommissioned in 1992 and now resides permanently in San Diego Harbor. What you’re seeing here is the ships control tower as seen from the flight deck.
